Sea lion’s cubs need a secure and ample space where to relax and play while they wait for their parents to return from their hunting activities to feed the young ones. These places are called “Loberias” where you find sea lion cubs and adults basking in the sun, playing in the sand or swimming around the shores. To get there we must walk along a short trail that will take us to the beach where we find the colony of sea lions. We continue our hike over a rocky trail made of loose volcanic rocks, so good physical balance is needed to walk on this kind of terrain. Along the way we will encounter the unique marine iguanas, one of the many animals that are endemic to Galapagos and the only iguana in the world that dives in the ocean to get its food. At the end of the trail we will find a small cliff from where we can see beautiful marine birds such as blue footed boobies, frigate birds, swallow-tailed gulls, shearwaters and storm petrels. After this visit we return to the small beach for some snorkeling in the tranquil Galapagos seas.
